JAMEL ARMAND
JAMEL ARMAND — SILK SONG COLLECTION
We were introduced to Jamel Armand by Mark Delany — collector, AoPP customer, and co-founder of Gallery Hioco Delany in Antwerp. Mark asked if we’d collaborate with Jamel for his first solo show, Silk Song. We saw the work. Immediate yes.
Colour. Rhythm. Motion.
Jamel’s paintings and sculptures draw from his Indonesian roots, blending ancestral memory and ritual with a warm, contemporary energy. Layers, figures, and textures that feel both ancient and alive.
For Silk Song, he spoke about honouring forgotten cultures, and the wolf motif inspired by his son — symbolising protection and kinship. You can feel that pulse in each mark: tension, release, flow.
Together we translated that rhythm into objects made for play — a limited-edition series of ArtTables, ArtNets, and ArtBats. On the wall they’re contemplative; in play they come alive.
About Jamel
Jamel Armand is a Dutch artist, filmmaker, and painter known for his layered visual language — a blend of folk-inspired figures, ritualistic gestures, and global symbolism. His work bridges ancestral memory with contemporary energy, creating compositions that feel both ancient and alive.
His practice began instinctively, as a way of making sense of things he couldn’t easily express in words. Over time, texture, layering, and simplified forms became his vocabulary. Many of his pieces draw from his Indonesian heritage and a deep connection to the tribes and civilisations he feels tied to across time.
To Jamel, art is rhythm — a dialogue between people, places, and moments of shared energy.
“Ping pong is rhythmic, fast, and about flow and connection,” he told us. “It resonates with how I see art — as movement between people.”
For AoPP, he created a series that honours that same spirit.
Art that moves.
Objects that play.
