Ping Pong as a Design Statement?
Ping Pong as a Design Statement? We’ve Been Doing That for Years.
On Sunday 3rd August, The Sunday Times ran a headline that caught our eye:
“Forget padel — the hottest table this summer is at the ping-pong net.”
The piece charts a cultural shift that we at Art of Ping Pong have long believed in — that ping pong isn’t just a game. It’s a statement. A conversation piece. A centrepiece.
From Barack Obama to Matthew McConaughey, Susan Sarandon to Sotheby’s clients, ping pong is having a moment. But while most of the designs featured in the article — like marble-on-onyx tables or £27,000 glass surfaces — focus on converting tables into dining or desk setups, we’ve taken things in a different direction.
We’ve been designing ping pong tables that double as wall-mounted artworks. Instead of hiding your table away, we invite you to hang it on display.
“Customers are starting to look beyond the usual buying considerations to seek a higher level of design that complements their homes,” notes Jamie Stanford, a table tennis expert quoted in the article.
We couldn’t agree more. But what if it didn’t just complement the home — what if it became the art on your wall?
Our ArtTables are design-first, functional mini tables that fold away as vibrant artworks. They’re crafted from premium birch plywood, designed in collaboration with some of our favourite contemporary artists — and intended to bring more joy to your home than any coffee table or console ever could.
“Best of all,” says Ella Gondzic from Sotheby’s International Realty, “when tucked into a family room, a table becomes the heart of the home, drawing in grandparents and teenagers alike.”
We love that idea. Because play should belong in the centre of your home — not hidden in a spare room.
P.S. We’re flattered to see the spotlight turning toward design-led ping pong. If you’re just discovering the scene, welcome. If you’ve been following us from the start — thanks for playing the long game
