WHERE ART BECOMES PLAY

Two bats. Four balls. One attitude.

Two bats. Four balls. One attitude.

Reisman was, without question, the father of the hardbat renaissance. When sponge appeared on the international scene in 1952, the top players all gradually migrated to it. Those who didn't disappeared… all except Reisman. Amongst the world-class players, he and he alone single-handedly kept the hardbat flame alive for the next 50 years, insisting on the virtues of the classical game.

Inspired by Marty’s love of the hardbat, we’ve stripped things back to their purest form: no foam, pimples-out rubber, and a beautifully balanced birch plywood blade, with an outer layer of Koto wood. The handle is crafted from betula wood and finished with our signature brass lens — a quiet mark of detail and respect for the craft.

Designed for those who play for the love of it.
For the hustle.
For the look of the game as much as the score.

THE HUSTLER IN SHARP SUIT

THE HUSTLER IN SHARP SUIT

Long before table tennis became a hyper-engineered sport, Marty Reisman showed the world a different version of it. A version dressed in a sharp suit, played with a loose grip and a cigarette flickering between points. He wasn’t chasing medals; he was performing. The table was his stage, the hardbat his instrument.

Reisman treated ping pong like jazz — improvisational, stylish, full of swagger. He played in smoky rooms, basements, parks, and back-alley clubs, drawing crowds not for the stakes, but for the show. His game blended charm and precision in a way no rulebook could teach.

Decades later, his legacy still hangs in the air: a reminder that play isn’t only about competition. It’s about presence, flair and the kind of confidence that can’t be coached. In a world full of technique, Marty brought personality.

THE RETURN OF AN ICON

THE RETURN OF AN ICON

With the release of Marty Supreme, interest in Marty Reisman has reignited. Part documentary, part character study, the film revisits a man who blurred the lines between sport and spectacle. It doesn’t just tell his story — it reframes him for a new generation discovering table tennis through culture rather than competition.

The film explores the myth and the man: the hustler with the hardbat, the performer with the effortless grin. It captures the world he inhabited — the smoke, the neon, the low-light halls where touch mattered more than topspin — and the attitude that made him unforgettable.

In shining a light on Reisman’s world, Marty Supreme also highlights something bigger: the idea that ping pong carries meaning beyond the table. It’s a social space, a cultural moment, a place where style and play collide. The film makes the case that Marty wasn’t just a player; he was an era.

FAQs

They look so cool – can you actually play ping pong with them?

Absolutely! Being a ping pong fanatic, our founder would never have created a bat that compromised the game itself.

All the materials used are of the highest quality, and the carefully screen-printed rubber allows for great playability. Resulting in a great balance of art and table tennis excellence.

I want to send one as a gift – how is it packaged?

We love that people gift our products and have made sure our packaging means you can send it directly to the lucky receiver and not even need to wrap it yourself.  We often get emails from customers letting us know how joyful their order is to open.

Each ArtBat or ArtBat set comes in an Art of Ping Pong branded linen bag wrapped in AoPP branded presentation tissue paper.

Being a small team means we are also able to add handwritten notes, so if you would like us to do that for you, please get in touch at marley@theartofpingpong.co.uk
