WHY YOU'LL LOVE OUR BEACH PADDLES
The classic beach bat has often been a throwaway plastic thing, picked up at a kiosk and left behind when the holiday ends.
Today’s beachgoers are looking for something better — objects that feel good in the hand, look good on the sand, and last beyond a single summer.
Crafted from birch plywood with a tactile finish, our Beach Paddle Set brings design detail to a game usually overlooked. Lightweight, durable and beautiful enough to hang at home, it’s a piece of summer you’ll want to keep.
Whether played on the shoreline, in the park, or the garden, these paddles make play look good — anywhere, anytime.
Make waves. Make play last.

WHERE ART BECOMES PLAY

BORN IN THE ALPS. MADE FOR THE SUMMER
Introducing our first-ever beach paddle — designed with the same ethos of bold design, beautiful craftsmanship, and joyful play that defines everything we create.
Each paddle has been carefully crafted in the French Alps, in collaboration with our friend, Designer/Maker, Alexander White, the same hands behind our very first ArtTables.

SMALL DETAILS BRING THE PIECE TOGETHER
Made from premium-grade birch plywood — a material that runs through much of Art of Ping Pong’s work — chosen for its strength, smooth finish, and ability to take print beautifully.
To contrast the pale birch, we selected walnut for the handle, sourced locally in the Chamonix Valley. Slightly lighter than American Black Walnut, which is more common in the UK, it still carries the same tactile richness and refined character.

FINAL TOUCHES
For a final touch of elegance that brings the whole piece together, we ran a single vertical inlay through the handle — smoked oak on one side, birch on the other. It adds a subtle tonal variation that complements the paddle’s artwork while nodding to the natural striping of the plywood’s end grain.
MEET ALEXANDER WHITE

We’ve worked closely with Alex for many years, and it was a pleasure to follow him to his new home in the Alps to work on this project together.
AoPP: You recently made the move many of us dream of: uprooting the family for a more rural, outdoor life in the French Alps. What was the tipping point that made you just go for it?
Alex: Without taking away from the effort it took our whole family to move, for me, it felt a bit like coming home. I was brought up here, I speak the language fluently, and there’s a deep familiarity with the landscape and culture.
After twelve years of running my furniture studio in London, renovating two homes, and with our two children reaching school age, it felt like the right moment to turn the page. We were ready for a new chapter.
Quite frankly, nowhere in the UK—outside of London—felt like the right fit for us as a family, given our backgrounds. We wanted to slow down, reconnect with nature, and live in a place that still had an international, outward-looking feel. The Alps ticked all the boxes.
AoPP: You have worked closely with Algy for many years. What made you say yes to embarking on new product development with team AoPP?
Alex: Algy and I both share a love for this place, so continuing our collaboration beyond the confines of the city felt natural. His biannual family visits to the area made it easy for us to meet, talk, and develop the idea in person as well as virtually. I’ve always enjoyed working with people who have a genuine passion for detail, art and craft, and Algy brings that in spades. There’s a shared language between us—both in design and in how we approach making—which made the project feel effortless and exciting.
FAQs
ARE THEY OKAY IN THE WATER?
The body of these paddles is made from marine-grade plywood, chosen for its exceptional strength and resistance to water. Each one is carefully sealed with a protective primer and finished with a matte varnish to help it handle the splashes of beach life.
That said, they’re still made from natural materials – and like all good things, they need a little care to stay beach-ready for many games to come. Please avoid leaving them in water for extended periods, as this could lead to swelling or damage over time.
I want to send one as a gift – how is it packaged?
We love that people gift our products and have made sure our packaging means you can send it directly to the lucky receiver and not even need to wrap it yourself. We often get emails from customers letting us know how joyful their order is to open.
Each set comes with an Art of Ping Pong branded linen bag wrapped in AoPP branded presentation tissue paper.
Being a small team means we are also able to add handwritten notes, so if you would like us to do that for you, please get in touch at marley@theartofpingpong.co.uk
I’m trying to be more eco-conscious – could you let me know more about the materials used?
We use responsibly sourced, premium-grade birch plywood — a material that runs through much of Art of Ping Pong’s work — chosen for its strength, smooth finish, and ability to take print beautifully.
To contrast the pale birch, we selected walnut for the handle, which was sourced locally in the Chamonix Valley. Slightly lighter than American Black Walnut, which is more common in the UK, it still carries the same tactile richness and refined character.
